How many times have you heard, “You don’t have to like your job” or “You’ll never make any money out of that. You might as well give up.” It’s sayings like this that cause us to ‘Pillage‘ our dreams. The definition of pillage is “to rob (a place) using violence, especially in wartime”. So in sense, these violent sentences are robbing your mind of going for your dreams, its kind of like a war in your head.
Where do you think JK Rowling, Walt Disney, Oprah, or Donald Trump(terrible example I know) would of been if would have been if they gave up on their dreams. Don’t let your dreams get pillaged by the words of others, become the best dang author, musician, or whatever it is you want to be. People in my life have told me millions of times “remember, you don’t have to like your job, it just has to make good money.” I have also seen those same people live a very stressful life, working seven days a week, 12 hours a day. Don’t get me wrong, if that type of life is for you go for it, but what is the point of making a lot of money if you are always to busy to use it?
As a friend of mine said, ‘the meaning of being successful differs between people, I want to one day live in a big house, and have a big family, whereas a friend of mine would be happier living in shanty little places as long as she is getting to see a new place each day.’ Live your life because you only get one, and you might as well live it doing things that make you happy. Fight back against the robbers in your head and don’t let them pillage your dreams.
